It is increasingly common to use natural sunscreens. Natural oils are the base of a protector with a function similar to conventional ones, although with their pros and cons. The main difference with the protectors of all life is that the natural ones are free of chemical products, so we can use it even if we have problems such as sensitive skin or allergies. Also, you can make your own natural sunscreen at home to enjoy the sun this summer.
What do I need to make a homemade natural sunscreen?
We have already said that oils are the basis of homemade sunscreen, so the first thing you will need are two tablespoons of a mixture of oils, among which you can choose coconut, sesame, olive, but also carrot. , raspberry or wheat germ, which are also part of the basic ingredients of a natural sunscreen. In fact, you will need a teaspoon of vitamin E oil or wheat germ oil and, if you want, 30 drops of essential oils, carrot seed or raspberry.
Oils aside, we will also need 30 grams of beeswax, which will give the sunscreen those waterproof properties that the vast majority of conventional sunscreens do not have; 2 tablespoons of zinc oxide and 30 grams of butter. You can choose between a single butter or mix different butter. For example, shea butter is a very good sunscreen, but you can also use cocoa butter or mango butter without problem. You can adapt the ingredients to your budget or what you have at home without problem.
Steps for preparing natural sunscreen
Once you have all the ingredients, which you can adapt to your budget or to what you have at home without problem, it is time to make the mixture step by step:
Step 1: You must melt the non-essential oils, beeswax and 30 grams of butter in a double boiler, over low heat.
Step 2: When they are melted, remove it from the heat and let it cool down a bit.
Step 3: Add the vitamin E or wheat germ oil, zinc oxide, and essential oils, and stir until the zinc oxide dissolves. Do not forget to use a protective mask, since inhaling zinc oxide during the preparation of the protector can be dangerous - although its topical use does not pose any danger.
Step 4: Finally, we will pour the mixture into a dispenser.
The end result will be similar to that of cream bars, so you can recycle the shampoo or deodorant container. But to get that cream-like texture you need to let the protector cool down. You can prepare it in the afternoon and let it cool overnight in the kitchen - not in the fridge. The next morning you will have a magnificent natural homemade sunscreen ready to enjoy a day at the beach, in the pool or in the mountains without fear of burning yourself.
Homemade natural sunscreen: use and precautions
Using this type of protectors is not a mystery. You can apply it before leaving the house, although you can also take it to the beach and protect yourself when you arrive. Unlike other types of protectors, such as chemical ones, it is not necessary to wait 30 minutes for the skin to absorb them before going into the water, the protection of natural protectors is instantaneous and you can bathe right after applying the protector without problems.
Even so, if you are going to spend many hours in the sun, it is advisable to reinforce the protection from time to time by putting sunscreen on again. It is also important that you wear the protector all over your body, not only for the most sensitive parts - face, shoulders, back and chest - to achieve complete protection. Finally, you should know that each tablespoon of zinc oxide is equivalent, more or less, to a protection factor of 10, so depending on the result for your next protector, you can increase or decrease the dose.
